with Sheila Davies
on 01 May 2018
The group listened to a talk by Sheila Davies of Celyn Textiles called “Aunties” - a strange title for a group enjoying stitch and textile art but all became clear as Sheila revealed that, like many of us, female relatives, namely her aunties, influenced her move into a textile career. Her tales about aunties and their influence kept us entertaied and laughing a lot. It resonated with many of us, as we too were influenced by mothers, grandmothers or aunties who stitched in some way.
Sheila showed us many of her very colourful jungle bags with the use of lovely bright, eye-popping colours which somehow she blended together so skillfully, and over which she hand stitched beautifully. Her work is varied and a complete eclectic mix. She showed us lovely portraits of African people and abstract panels that used many different textiles and stitch. I am sure the members who were on her workshop the following day, had a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding time.
