WEG’s 67th AGM

on 01 October 2019

Annual General Meetings are considered by some to be boring.  However, this cannot be said for this year’s meeting!

The afternoon began with a delicious, free lunch, which gave everyone the opportunity to chat to one another and to begin to get to know the new members.

The Annual General Meeting ran smoothly and included a talk by Mia, a Young Embroiderer who has developed a real passion for textiles and has chosen to do this as an A Level.  To see the minutes of the meeting, members should log in to the password-protected section of our website.

After the meeting had finished, the members were invited to take part in a quiz!  The questions, some easy, some hard, covered a range of aspects of stitching and of being a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild.  Examples included …
Who is the EG’s Royal Patron?
What is the theme for this year’s Meadows’ Trophy?
Who invented the first sewing machine?
How long is the Bayeux Tapestry?
What is another name for the Palestrina stitch?
Everyone was a winner with Wendy kindly handing round a bag of chocolates!

Another innovation this year was a raffle with the prizes being generously donated by a variety of organisations.  These included …
A £50 voucher donated by Lovecrafts (formerly sewandsew.co.uk)
The book, “Threads of Life”, donated and signed by Clare Hunter
Afternoon Cream Tea for 2 donated by the National Trust at Croome
A linen tea towel donated by Nicola Jarvis
A MrX Stitch first magazine, donated and signed by Jamie Chalmers
An Advent calendar panel and a £10 voucher, donated by Creative Hands
Plus a range of other gifts donated by members.
Our thanks go to all those who contributed in any way.

A “Show and Tell” had been planned for the final part of the afternoon but we quite ran out of time!

Members look forward to a year of interesting talks, opportunities to learn new skills and many other varied activities.
